AK250084 Koken — The Ancient Dog 120 x 40 x 40 cm Koken was not carved. It was revealed by time. Once part of an Ancient Kauri root that slept beneath the earth for tens of thousands of years, it carried no intention of becoming anything. Yet when it returned to the light, its quiet form appeared unmistakable — the gentle posture of a resting dog, patient, calm, and present. It does not breathe, yet it holds the memory of breath. It does not have a heartbeat, yet it carries the rhythm of years once shared. Koken exists to honor those companions who walked beside us through the silent chapters of our lives — those who waited at the door without question, those who stayed close without asking why, those who gave their entire lifetime in exchange for nothing more than our presence. They leave, as all living beings must. But their companionship does not end. Koken remains. Not as a sculpture, but as a witness to devotion. It no longer runs, yet it never leaves. Within its ancient grain lives the quiet truth — that those who once walked beside us continue to live on, forever, in the heart of the one they loved.
